Strong Towns hosts 6th annual contest to inspire local-level fiscal resilience, identify "Strongest Town"
Strong Towns is now accepting nominations for its annual "Strongest Town" competition, a tournament-style contest to discover and recognize one community that exemplifies responsible growth and fiscal resilience at the local level. This year, we're also focusing on how competitors have adapted in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nominations may be made—and full contest rules found—here!
Strong Towns staff and board members select 16 competitors from among nominations based on each community's approach to economic growth and development. We're looking for cities and towns that:
- Value resilience over efficiency
- Focus on incremental, iterative growth strategies
- Embrace constant adaptation
- Observe and address the real needs of real citizens
- Prioritize today's finances over speculation of future growth
The winner, which will be announced April 9, will receive a visit from Strong Towns President Charles Marohn to celebrate the victory and share the Strong Towns message. We’ll also write an in-depth profile of the victorious city that we will share with our worldwide audience.
We’re out looking for the truly great communities—from the crown jewels to the hidden gems, the big cities to the smallest towns.
It's amazing to see the enthusiasm and positive spirit that emerges from each city that participates in the Strongest Town Contest. The competition consistently generates transformative ideas that inspire communities around the country to grow more financially resilient."
Rachel Quednau, Strong Towns Program Director
Each week, a different aspect of participating communities will be featured on the Strong Towns website, and the public will vote on which towns best applied Strong Towns values to create a thriving place.
